This position is responsible for scheduling and leading SCRAP Education Programs, including field trips, teaching reuse in classrooms, workshops, kids’ camps, and community outreach.SCRAP’s mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. To fulfill our mission, SCRAP operates a donation-based creative reuse store and education programming.SCRAP boasts a world-class creative reuse education program for students of all ages and experience levels. By combining environmental education, art and sustainable activities, students have a fully engaging and informative experience. Students, teachers, families, and community members learn about saving reusable items that would otherwise wind up in the trash or recycling bin.JOB SUMMARYThe focus of this position is the SCRAP Education Program, assists with Event Coordination and Marketing/Outreach, and will be responsible for the scheduling, promoting, and delivering of SCRAP Education Programming. Hours will vary from weekdays to weekends based on the programming schedule and classes with flexibility. Reuse/Donations Specialist knowledge required to maintain up-to-date knowledge of current materials for programming and assist in the creative reuse center if needed, but education programming will be the priority of this position. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for managing all aspects related to SCRAP Education, including managing programming, outreach, development, staff and volunteer management related to educational programming, and reporting to the Site Director and National Education Director.Duties include but are not limited to:- Lead, manage, and teach SCRAP Educational Programs including: Field Trips (at SCRAP), SCRAP at School(s), Teacher Trainings, Camp SCRAP, Birthday Parties, Scouting Outings, and other educational activities in/from the creative reuse center.- Manage and coordinate Workshops and Education Events - Host regular family-friendly craft workshops at SCRAP or other places in the community (Craft workshops, Crafternoons, Craft & Drink, etc).- Manage the use of the SCRAP Education Studio for programs, workshops, events, bookings, and store uses. Maintain an organized and ready-to-use studio space.- Creating and developing a new or rotating set of lessons and projects both to continually engage return students and to reflect updates in inventory, sustainability best practices, and student aptitude.- Administration - Responsible for scheduling programming, invoicing, tracking registration lists, email correspondence with teachers and parents, and tracking data for Monthly Reports (provided to Site Director and National Education Director)- Outreach - Promote education program offerings to schools, educators, and the community.- Safety - Complete Incident Report per protocol and ensure compliance with safety guidelines for use of education space and all activities for participants and leaders.- Ensure that liability waivers are signed by all class participants and/or their guardians.- Organize and Facilitate community and volunteer educators that provide additional creative reuse workshops overseen by SCRAP.- Meet with Education Director monthly to discuss current Education Programs, plans, and updates.- Develop and manage Educational and Informative marketing materials for SCRAP (social media posts, newsletters, outreach materials, etc.)- Although the focus of this position is the Education Program, a portion of these hours could be delegated to Reuse Specialist job duties. The range is not limited to but somewhere between 75-85% of the time for education programs and coordination, and 15-25% of their time spent supporting the reuse center, customer service and in-store responsibilities processing duties. Such as customer service duties, retail cashiering, sort, stock and organizing, and other duties as assigned by the Site Executive Director or designee. Sometimes these expectations change, and their time can be spent on Education Program related work for up to 40 hours a week and 100% of their time.Requirements:- One year experience working or volunteering with children- Ability to communicate effectively, in an oral and written format- Great organizational and planning skills- Ability to communicate effectively to a large group- Experience instructing in a classroom or workshop setting- Positive classroom management skills- Art/creative experience with a variety of media- Lesson planning experience- Ability to create lessons within a variety of creative themes- Ability to lead art projects with students of varying ability- Availability to work additional paid hours for camp during school breaks and summers- Current driver's license and reliable vehicle- Availability to work weekends as needed for SCRAP events- Vehicle to aid in transporting education materials to and from schools and other settings
