About the Opportunity
The firm is seeking a skilled civil litigation associate to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to work on litigation matters across various industries, with an emphasis on insurance defense and coverage matters.
Candidates should demonstrate exemplary oral and written communication, critical thinking and problem-solving ability, strong organizational skills, and a working knowledge of the rules of evidence and current civil and appellate law and procedure. We value intelligent research capabilities, a strong academic record, adaptability to rapidly changing priorities, and the necessary ability to meet strict deadlines. Candidates must have at least three years of civil litigation experience. Experience in insurance defense and coverage matters is particularly desirable.
Responsibilities - Manage a caseload of litigation files from inception to final resolution.
- Manage discovery matters, including taking and defending depositions, and drafting and responding to written discovery requests.
- Conduct legal research and draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Prepare for and attend court proceedings, arbitrations, administrative hearings, and mediations.
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in the litigation process.
- Collaborate with colleagues on complex legal issues and strategies.
Qualifications - Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice law in Michigan.
- 3 years of civil litigation experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Superior written and verbal/interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and self-disciplined while managing multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Background in insurance defense and/or coverage analysis is preferred.
