Position Description:
Position Summary:
The Temporary Part time Ironworkers Summer Training Program Lab Assistant primary responsibility is assisting the Ironworker summer conference team. This position will also be responsible for operating an equipped industrial forklift to move materials in the warehouse region and to load and unload truck trailers or shipping containers.

Essential Duties include:

Laboratory:
  • Assist with set up of IWI summer conference.
  • Assist with written and oral communication of inventory and set ups.
  • Assist in maintaining, load and unload equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe laboratory working environment. Familiarity with OSHA and SDS requirements.
  • Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support teaching, learning, student engagement, professional responsibilities, institutional service, and other responsibilities. Use such technologies in a manner consistent with academic standards, professional ethics, confidentiality requirements, and compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Abide by WCC work practice and rules of conduct.

Forklift:
  • Moving controls, devices, and levers to drive forklifts of industry to transfer materials between unloading, processing, loading, and storage areas.
  • Performing routine post and pre inspections to ensure suitable working nature or forklift equipment.
  • Reporting to supervisor regarding any damage to racks, faulty equipment, or any other safety hazards.
  • Consulting, working, and coordinating with supervisors, managers, equipment manufactures, and employees regarding unloading and loading operations.
  • Completing forklift operator training provided by the industry annually.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Loading or unloading materials manually, off or on to pallets, platforms, skids, or lifting devices.
  • Wrapping material loads with a wrapper and making clean the warehouse premises.

Hours/Schedule:
  • This position is temporary— Up to eight (8) weeks in length, not to exceed 19.5 hours/week, with work hours that may be scheduled anytime Monday-Saturday 7:00AM-10:00PM.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding of OSHA/MIOSHA standards.
  • Valid Driver’s license from State of MI.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology relevant to the discipline and faculty role, including the capacity to learn and appropriately utilize emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to evaluate the accuracy, reliability, and appropriateness of AI-generated content; maintain confidentiality where required; exercise professional and academic judgment; and uphold ethical standards in the use of technology for teaching, learning, and service.
