Position Title: Part time Construction Technology Laboratory Assistant

Position Description:
WCC is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to be considered when part-time and/or on-call laboratory assistants are needed to assist with credit courses in the HVAC/R Department. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester. Upon successful submission of your application, resume and transcripts, you will be considered for future part-time and/or on-call laboratory assistant opportunities on a per-course basis for the following Construction Technology (CON) course prefixes:

CON 108: Introduction to Construction Technology
CON 104: Construction Framing I
CON 105: Construction Framing II
CMG 180: Application of Construction Materials
CON 235: Construction – Building Codes and Prints
CON 204: Construction Finishes – Interior
CON 205: Construction Finishes – Exterior
CON 255: Construction Concrete and Masonry
CMG 225: Construction Builders License
CON 230: Construction Production
CON 240: Construction – Advanced Finishes and Techniques
CON 260: Construction Remodeling
CON 270: Construction Mechanicals

Position Summary:
Assist faculty, department chair, and/or classified faculty in the supervision and maintenance of department laboratory and monitor and direct students performing laboratory activities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Faculty during Lab sessions by performing the following duties:
    • Maintain a clean working area around all equipment.
    • Maintain a safe work environment for students and staff.
    • Prepare Lab equipment for scheduled classes.
    • Maintain all Lab tools and equipment, as directed.
    • Report all non-working or unsafe equipment.
    • Breakdown laboratories at the end of each scheduled class.
  • Observe and coach students performing laboratory activities assigned by the department’s instructors.
  • Observe and coach students for safe working procedures which performing laboratory activities.
  • Direct student assistants in the routine duties of maintaining the department’s laboratories.
  • Maintain an active program of personal professional development.
  • Abide by Washtenaw Community College’s work practice and rules of conduct.
  • Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
  • Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support teaching, learning, student engagement, professional responsibilities, institutional service, and other responsibilities. Use such technologies in a manner consistent with academic standards, professional ethics, confidentiality requirements, and compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
Capable of lifting and transporting at least 50 pounds.

Hours/Schedule:
This position is scheduled to work a maximum of twenty (20) hours per week with varying hours. This department has courses ranging from 45 – 90 contact hours per semester. This equals 4 to 8 hours per week per course depending on course and length of term.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Thirty (30) credit hours of higher education with a focus in Construction Technology or Construction Management.
  • Equivalent of one (1) year related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work enthusiastically with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated understanding and respect for standard laboratory polices, protocol and safety.
  • Must be available to work day or evening classes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology relevant to the discipline and faculty role, including the capacity to learn and appropriately utilize emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to evaluate the accuracy, reliability, and appropriateness of AI-generated content; maintain confidentiality where required; exercise professional and academic judgment; and uphold ethical standards in the use of technology for teaching, learning, and service

  • Familiar with the Construction Technology course curriculum and objectives.
  • Familiar with OSHA requirements.
