Position Summary:
Student Ambassadors are a diverse group of current students that are united by their passion to help. Being a Student Ambassador is a rewarding, challenging, and demanding experience. You will be a primary representative of Washtenaw Community College (WCC), facilitator, problem-solver and mentor through various new student experiences virtually and in-person. You will be the face of WCC to new and prospective students. You will be expected to genuinely connect with a wider and more diverse range of people than you may have ever experienced. You will be part of maintaining a safe space for new students as they make the transition into our campus community.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate orientation for new and returning students
  • Provide individual and group campus tours
  • Conduct small and large group presentations at events (both virtually and in person)
  • Meet and greet prospective students, families, and special guests at events
  • Assist with data entry, gathering materials for events, and other departmental needs
  • Regularly conduct outgoing phone calls to students for registration, payment, and other reminders
  • Contact students who have recently completed onboarding to check-in on their experience
  • Represent WCC at both on-campus and off-campus events as needed
  • Serve as a point of contact for students navigating campus resources and provide appropriate referrals
  • Attend mandatory weekly staff meetings; and semesterly training activities
  • Assist in development of presentations, documents, and flyers
Related Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Host pop-up table events to familiarize students with various WCC resources and opportunities
  • Assist students in basic onboarding activities at the Welcome Center during peak registration periods
  • Support social media and communication efforts for student outreach
  • Support WCC’s Public Relations and Marketing Department as a public-facing student representative for marketing campaigns, photo shoots, video shoots, articles, and special events
  • Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support the effective performance of assigned duties, enhance productivity, improve communication and information management, support decision-making, and other responsibilities, while ensuring compliance with confidentiality requirements, institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Hours/Schedule: Scheduled to work up to 15 hours/week (mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends); flexible around class schedules.

Work Environment:
  • Works primarily in an on-campus setting within the Office of Student Orientation, On-Boarding, and Outreach
  • Regular attendance on campus is required; no remote work available
  • Occasional day, evening, and weekend work is required to support program needs and events
  • Physical requirements include:
    • Walking across campus for extended period
    • Standing for long durations during event
    • Carrying or transporting materials up to 25 pounds
    • Operating standard office equipment (e.g., computers, phones, printers)

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Minimum of 12 credits completed before position starts
• Must have and maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
• Must be registered for 6 credit hours in winter, summer and fall semesters
• Must commit to a two (2) semester term as a Student Ambassador; continuation of employment is reviewed at the end of the two semester
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Availability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional Saturdays as needed
• Must attend mandatory training sessions and key college events
• Personal transportation to external events is required; mileage reimbursed provided for use of personal vehicle.
• Ability to use workplace technology relevant to the position, including the capacity to learn and appropriately leverage emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to assess the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content, maintain confidentiality, and apply sound judgment and ethical practices in the use of technology.

· Completing of a college-level communications class
· Involvement in student life at WCC
· Experience with social media management, videography, photography, and design
· Enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward representing Washtenaw Community College
· Excellent communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings
· Ability to listen actively, solve problems, and respond quickly in dynamic situations
· Strong organizational and time management skills
· Demonstrated dependability and commitment to responsibilities
