Position Summary:
As an Instructional Lab Assistant for the Electric Vehicle and Internal Combustion Engine Programs, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of educational content and practical training to students enrolled in electric vehicle and internal combustion engine courses. You will work closely with instructors to facilitate learning activities, provide technical assistance, and ensure a conducive learning environment for students to develop skills related to electric vehicle and internal combustion engine technology. In addition, the position will provide services to students within the department that assist in the recruitment, retention, academic, personal and professional achievement of students.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with Instruction: Collaborate with instructors to deliver instructional material effectively, including lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities focused on electric vehicle and internal combustion engine technology.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance to students during lab sessions, troubleshooting issues related to electric vehicle and internal combustion engine components, systems, and diagnostics.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assist in maintaining and organizing electric vehicle and internal combustion engine equipment, tools, and resources to ensure they are in good working condition and readily accessible for instructional purposes.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and procedures in the electric vehicle and internal combustion engine lab, ensuring students adhere to safety guidelines while working with tools, equipment, and vehicles. Familiarity with OSHA and MSDS requirements.
  • Student Assistance: Offer guidance and support to students in understanding course materials, completing assignments, and mastering practical skills required for working with electric and internal combustion engine vehicles.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and performance in alignment with program requirements. Generate reports as necessary to track student outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with instructors to develop and refine curriculum materials, lab exercises, and assessments to enhance the educational experience and meet program objectives.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on advancements in electric vehicle and internal combustion engine technology, industry trends, and best practices in instruction to ensure the program remains relevant and competitive.
  • Lab Preparation: Setup and breakdown laboratories at the beginning and end of each class session to ensure equipment is properly stored and maintained.
  • Part Time Support: Train and track part-time laboratory assistants under the direction of the supervisor so that appropriate schedules and tasks are covered.
  • Inventory: Assist with inventory procurement and manage the department’s classroom, laboratory and maintenance supplies via scan tool and related software.
  • Recruitment & Retention Initiatives: Assist with the recruiting of students which may include visiting high schools to promote program, etc. with a special emphasis on underrepresented student population areas. Assist with promotional events and competitions as a means of program promotion and retention of student body.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule:
This is a Classified Faculty position, scheduled to work year-round, accountable for forty (40) hours per week. Hours vary based on class schedules—days, nights and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Associates Degree in Automotive Services or a closely related field or equivalent education, training, and laboratory work expertise as determined by the college.
  • Two (2) years full-time work experience in skilled area.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License

  • ASE L3 Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist Certification
  • ASE L4 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist Certification
