Essential Duties include:
- Install, repair, and rebuild HVAC/R systems devices and equipment, also reclaim and charge refrigeration equipment.
- Perform journeyperson level installation, repair, assembly and maintenance of all heating, ventilation and air conditioning / refrigeration (HVAC/R) equipment.
- Inspect and operates air conditioning units, compressors, reach-in coolers, freezers, drinking fountains and others HVAC/R machinery to determine that all are functioning properly documenting information using electronic devices.
- Install control wiring to HVAC/R equipment, troubleshooting electrical devices for repair, replacement or calibration as needed.
- Braze or solder parts to repair/replace defective joints, DX values, control values, coils, filters etc. and check for system leaks after repair or parts installation.
- Operate and maintain air handling equipment and related components, i.e., motors, coils, compressors, dampers.
- Perform refrigerate reclaim on HVAC/R systems equipment, properly charging refrigeration system and testing for accuracy.
- Read and interpret meters and gauges. Study and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams of HVAC/R systems and equipment.
- Assist with ongoing preventative maintenance program for all HVAC/R equipment and HVAC/R refrigerant equipment and related components.
- Maintain HVAC/R equipment Refrigerant Management Plan; ensuring compliance with all local and state government and rules, codes, and regulations.
- Participate in the procurement and inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment in the Mechanical Systems department.
- Maintain cleanliness of work and storage areas, mechanical areas and tools used in the performance of work assignments.
- Perform chemical test of water systems related to primary and secondary heating systems, chill water, and steam boilers.
- Regular attendance on campus is required for this position
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Travel from building to building and floor to floor in multiple level buildings as well enter and work in confined, awkward, concealed, cramped positions and noisy spaces.
- Climb a ladder to a minimum height of 20 feet and lift 50 pounds unassisted to a height of at least 3 feet above floor level.
- Work in inclement weather as needed.
Hours/Schedule: - This position will work 40 hours per week. Schedule dependent on college need, so must have the ability to accept temporary schedule changes with minimum notice.

| Minimum Qualifications: | Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s license.
- Documented successful completion of a Department of Labor & Economic Growth recognized Mechanical Apprenticeship Program or possession of a Department of Labor & Economic Growth recognized Mechanical Contractors license.
- Equivalent of five (5) years’ experience operating and maintaining, commercial, institutional, or industrial HVAC/R systems and equipment.
- Possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan refrigeration license and certification recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved testing organization to purchase refrigerates and reclaim refrigerates.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write and interpret written and verbal instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to braze and solder copper and similar materials.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and schematics of HVAC/R systems and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret meters and gauges.
- Demonstrated ability to climb a ladder to a minimum height of 20 feet and lift 50 pounds unassisted to a height of at least 3 feet above floor level.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
- Ability to work in inclement weather as needed.
- Ability to travel from building to building and floor to floor in multiple level buildings as well enter and work in confined, awkward, concealed, cramped positions and noisy spaces.
- Ability to use a microcomputer and knowledge of basic spread sheets, databases and word processing application software.
