Position Title: Engineering Technician / Assembly Assistant (Part-Time Contractor)

Tulip Healthy Living, LLC, located in the Ann Arbor area, is a research and development start-up company focused on developing rehabilitation furniture that promotes mobility for patients and office workers. The company is currently preparing for a product launch.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assemble mechanical and electrical components for approximately 18–20 ergonomic motorized workstations/desks, including actuators, wiring harnesses, control boxes, and lifting components.

  • Perform hands-on workstation assembly using hand and power tools while following assembly instructions and safety procedures.

  • Conduct quality control checks and functional testing of assembled products to ensure proper operation.

  • Assist with wiring, cable routing, connector installation, and basic electrical troubleshooting.

  • Identify and report mechanical or electrical issues during assembly and testing.

  • Support prototype builds and product improvements through testing and feedback.

  • Help maintain organized workspaces, tools, inventory, and assembly documentation.

  • Assist with field servicing or repairs of products as needed, including mechanical adjustments and component replacement.

  • Document assembly procedures and suggest process improvements to support future production scaling.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Engineering experience and background

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, soldering, or fabrication preferred.

  • Comfortable using common hand tools, measuring tools, and basic power tools.

  • Ability to read and follow assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, or technical instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.

  • Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of tasks in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Technical training, associate degree, vocational certification, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.

  • Experience working with electromechanical systems such as motors, actuators, adjustable furniture, or robotics components is a plus.

  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.

Part-time: 1-3 days per week

Compensation:

  • Competitive hourly contractor salary, commensurate with experience.
