Position Title: Engineering Technician / Assembly Assistant (Part-Time Contractor)
Tulip Healthy Living, LLC, located in the Ann Arbor area, is a research and development start-up company focused on developing rehabilitation furniture that promotes mobility for patients and office workers. The company is currently preparing for a product launch.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assemble mechanical and electrical components for approximately 18–20 ergonomic motorized workstations/desks, including actuators, wiring harnesses, control boxes, and lifting components.
Perform hands-on workstation assembly using hand and power tools while following assembly instructions and safety procedures.
Conduct quality control checks and functional testing of assembled products to ensure proper operation.
Assist with wiring, cable routing, connector installation, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
Identify and report mechanical or electrical issues during assembly and testing.
Support prototype builds and product improvements through testing and feedback.
Help maintain organized workspaces, tools, inventory, and assembly documentation.
Assist with field servicing or repairs of products as needed, including mechanical adjustments and component replacement.
Document assembly procedures and suggest process improvements to support future production scaling.
Skills and Qualifications:
Engineering experience and background
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, soldering, or fabrication preferred.
Comfortable using common hand tools, measuring tools, and basic power tools.
Ability to read and follow assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, or technical instructions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical systems.
Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of tasks in a fast-paced startup environment.
Technical training, associate degree, vocational certification, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
Experience working with electromechanical systems such as motors, actuators, adjustable furniture, or robotics components is a plus.
Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
Part-time: 1-3 days per week
