Tulip Healthy Living, LLC, located in the Ann Arbor area, is a research and development start-up company with a focus on developing rehabilitation furniture to promote mobility in patients or office workers. The company is currently preparing for a product launch.

Primary responsibilities:

·      Hands-on assembly of mechanical and electrical components for approximately 18–20 ergonomic motorized desks, including linear actuators, wiring harnesses, and motorized lifting components.

·      Provide technical input and conduct quality control testing of the current pre-production prototype, including troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues.

·      Provide quality control testing of parts and end product  

·      Diagnose and service products in the field post-sale, including mechanical adjustments and electrical troubleshooting.

·      Assist in the development and refinement of new prototypes and product features through an iterative design and testing process.

·      Assist with future development of human user interface 

·      Document assembly procedures and technical improvements to support future product scaling.

Skills and qualifications:

·      Hands-on experience with fabrication, machining, electrical wiring, soldering, and mechanical assembly.

·      Flexibility: able to work on a wide variety of projects/timelines, able to switch quickly 

·      Engineering degree or equivalent hands-on prototyping and product development experience

·      Basic mechanical engineering skills including drafting, additive manufacturing, and fabrication

·      Basic electrical engineering skills, including circuit analysis, PCB design, and troubleshooting

·      Basic programming experience for microcontrollers or embedded systems (firmware flashing, configuration, or debugging). 

·      Experience working with electromechanical systems such as motors, actuators, or robotics components preferred.

Freelance time estimates:  

·      We estimate about 4-8 hours per week for spring of 2026 with further adjustments when the new product will be launched.

Salary:  

·      Hourly contractor rate anticipated in the range of $40–$50 per hour, depending on experience.

Ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on product development and prototyping in a startup environment. They are comfortable working independently, troubleshooting electromechanical systems, and helping bring early-stage hardware products from prototype to small-scale production.
