Role Summary:Quantum Signal AI is looking for a Real-Time Software Intern interested in working on performant, low-level, and embedded applications for the summer of 2026. This is a paid internship opportunity, offering valuable hands-on experience and eligibility for academic credit. Our projects move quickly and often include opportunities to gain new skills. Applicants can expect to work with sensor integration, video streaming, real-time networking, motor control, or a variety of other applications. Outstanding candidates will be comfortable with Linux, C/C++ and have experience with robotics or other hardware-facing projects. We are looking for lifelong learners and tinkerers who are interested in new project challenges!
Location:We are located in Saline, Michigan. This position is in-person to encourage a culture of collaboration and mentorship.
What You’ll Do: - Design, develop, troubleshoot, test, and maintain real-time software on a variety of architectures, platforms, and applications
- Work with complex systems that include computing, communications, sensors, microcontrollers, and custom electronics
- Collaborate with your mentor alongside other software, electrical, mechanical, and research engineers as part of multidisciplinary project teams
- Develop unit tests and execute test plans
- Create and collaborate with others on supporting documentation
What You’ll Bring: - Current enrollment in a degree for Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field
- Current enrollment in a degree-seeking program, maintaining student status for the entire duration of the internship, including the academic term immediately following the internship
- 0-3 years of work, school, club, or hobby experience in software development
- Strong programming fundamentals with proficiency in object-oriented programming
- Experience debugging and troubleshooting both software and hardware issues
- Experience with Linux and C/C++
- Familiarity with data structures and algorithms
- Desire to learn and a passion for low-level software
- Desire to work with others as part of a multidisciplinary project team
- Understanding of when you need to ask for help/feedback and willingness to do so
Bonus Points For: - Comfortable with C/C++ development tools (GCC, CMake, GDB, etc.)
- Familiarity with embedded, distributed, and multithreaded software
- Previous hobby, school, club, or work experience with:
- Microcontroller hardware and software (Arduino, STM32, ESP32, etc.)
- Embedded Linux (Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, etc.)
- Robotics, actuation, or control systems
- Sensor integration and communication protocols
- CAN and Ethernet communication
- Image processing and video compression
