Marketing & Graphic Design Specialist

Oxford Companies

Oxford Companies

Marketing & Communications, Design
Ann Arbor, MI, USA
Posted on Mar 5, 2026

Job Summary

The Marketing Specialist – Graphic Design is Oxford’s in-house visual communications expert, responsible for executing the company’s design standards across all marketing channels. This role exercises independent creative judgment to translate business objectives into compelling visual solutions in line with Oxford’s visual brand, and operates as a self-directed specialist capable of managing complex, multi-platform projects from concept through delivery. The position requires a high degree of technical mastery, brand stewardship, and the ability to independently determine the most effective design approach for each marketing challenge.

Job Duties

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Design Execution & Creative Leadership

  • Exercises independent creative judgment in the design and production of marketing assets, including brochures, signage, presentations, email campaigns, social media graphics, and web content.
  • Determines appropriate design solutions based on marketing objectives, audience, and channel — translating strategic direction into polished, effective visual communications without step-by-step oversight.
  • Presents and defends creative concepts and polished mockups to stakeholders, incorporating feedback with precision and minimal revision cycles.
  • Independently manages projects from initial brief through final delivery, maintaining quality and timeliness even as priorities shift.

Brand Ownership & Standards

  • Serves as brand steward for Oxford’s visual identity across all platforms, to help ensure consistent application of brand guidelines across every market-facing touchpoint.
  • Supports the development of Oxford’s design system, including templates, global styles, and asset libraries, maintaining and organizing all design files for current use and future scalability.
  • Advises internal stakeholders on brand-compliant design solutions.

Technical Specialization

  • Demonstrates proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; leverages technical depth to execute complex layouts, production files, and vendor-ready deliverables.
  • Manages and updates website content and design elements in WordPress, exercising independent judgment on layout, UX, and visual hierarchy decisions.
  • Builds, tests, and schedules email campaigns in Mailchimp and other platforms, independently managing the full production workflow from design to deployment.
  • Coordinates with print and production vendors; independently prepares and reviews print-ready files to ensure technical accuracy and brand fidelity.
  • Works with photo and video vendors; exercises a strong visual eye in image selection and art direction to ensure assets align with brand standards.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve design processes, templates, and workflows .
  • Stays current on design tools, digital marketing platforms, and industry trends; applies new knowledge to continuously elevate the quality of Oxford’s marketing output.
  • Brings creative problem-solving and a growth mindset to both routine production tasks and complex, high-visibility projects.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Design priorities are independently assessed and executed with minimal oversight.
  • Feedback is incorporated with precision and professionalism, with minimal need for back-and-forth revision cycles.
  • Projects move efficiently from concept to delivery — even when business priorities shift — because the specialist exercises sound independent judgment to adapt.
  • Oxford’s visual brand is consistent, polished, and recognizable across every channel and format.
  • Routine tasks (email campaigns, production edits, template updates) are handled with the same discipline and standards as high-profile creative projects.
  • Internal stakeholders trust the specialist with visual design decisions and brand application.
  • Design assets are clean, technically accurate, and ready for both internal use and external vendor handoff without requiring additional review.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The specialist operates independently within established marketing direction, exercising autonomous judgment over design decisions while deferring to leadership for final strategic approvals.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of professional graphic design experience in an in-house or agency environment, with a demonstrated track record of independent project ownership.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing both conceptual creative work and precise, production-quality execution across print, digital, and web.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop); Canva experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently interpret marketing objectives and determine appropriate design solutions.
  • Proven brand stewardship experience: deep comfort working within and actively maintaining established visual identity systems.
  • Fluency in design best practices for templates and global styles across graphic design, web, and email applications.
  • Hands-on experience with WordPress (content management and design updates) and Mailchimp (campaign production and deployment); additional marketing platform experience a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills; independently manages multiple concurrent projects with shifting deadlines and multiple stakeholder inputs.
  • Calm under pressure, highly adaptable, and confident exercising creative judgment while knowing when to escalate decisions to leadership.
  • Proactive problem-solver: identifies issues, develops solutions, and acts.
  • Curiosity and self-directed drive to continuously build new design, web, and marketing skills.
