NSF is seeking Specialist I in the Exposures (Coatings) Lab, you will be responsible for coatings application and witness testing. This is a highly independent role requiring strong project management skills and the ability to manage your own timelines. You’ll collaborate across departments and gain exposure to a variety of laboratory processes.

Responsibilities

Independently develop, assemble, and maintain test equipment, instrumentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Schedule and apply coatings for exposure testing, aligning with Exposure Lab hours.
Adhere to all corporate and laboratory quality control procedures and policies.
Safely handle various chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases using Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
Accurately prepare and maintain records (electronic data, folders, forms) using laboratory information systems and sample tracking tools.
Evaluate and lead improvements in laboratory processes.
Collaborate with Account Managers and external clients to conduct witness testing.
Support other labs within the Ann Arbor facility as needed.
Maintain a clean and organized work area; independently complete weekly safety walkthroughs.
Propose, test, document, and implement process improvements.
Cross-train in other Exposures or Preparations sections to support high sample volumes.
Comply with all safety and health policies and procedures.
Travel as needed to perform witness testing.
Train and maintain a backup for the Coatings Lab.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Basic laboratory skills and ability to document data accurately.
Proficiency with a wide range of laboratory equipment.
Ability to perform procedures with minimal supervision and follow quality standards.
Strong time management and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Education & Experience:

Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience preferred.
Experience applying industrial coatings is strongly preferred (required for external candidates).

Additional Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods.
Must be able to wear a full or half-face respirator and pass a medical evaluation.
Flexibility to work occasional off-hours to accommodate product application or curing schedules.
Willingness to travel up to 10% for witness testing.
