**About ACM
**The American Center for Mobility (ACM) is a global development and proving ground dedicated to advancing safe, secure, and sustainable mobility technologies. ACM operates an advanced mobility proving ground, EV charging and energy systems testbeds, connected and automated vehicle infrastructure, and demonstration facilities that support industry, government, academia, national laboratories, and standards organizations.

**Position Summary
**ACM is seeking an experienced Engineer for Smart Mobility Technologies to support research, development, testing, and commercialization efforts across Automated Driving Systems (ADS), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), connected vehicle technologies, cybersecurity, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This position requires a hands-on engineer who can bridge detailed technical execution with project planning, stakeholder coordination, and delivery of engineering results on federally funded and industry-sponsored programs.

Key Responsibilities

·        Support the engineering, deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of ACM’s smart mobility and EV charging testbeds.

·        Develop technical requirements, test plans, validation strategies, and execution workflows for R&D and commercial projects.

·        Lead or support project execution across multiple stakeholders, including federal agencies, automotive OEMs, suppliers, utilities, academia, and national labs.

·        Perform hands-on system integration, testing, data collection, analysis, and technical reporting.

·        Identify technical risks, safety concerns, and execution challenges; develop mitigation strategies and corrective actions.

·        Communicate progress, results, and recommendations through written reports, presentations, and technical reviews.

·        Maintain awareness of evolving standards, regulations, tools, and technologies relevant to smart mobility and EV systems.

Primary Technical Focus Areas

The ideal candidate must possess demonstrable knowledge, technical skills and expertise in two or more of the following areas:

**Automated Driving Systems (ADS – SAE Levels 3–5)
**Support the development and execution of methodologies for evaluating the safety, performance, and operational limits of ADS-equipped vehicles. Responsibilities include working with industry, academia, government agencies, and standards organizations to assess ADS behavior using a combination of simulation, closed-course testing, and on-road naturalistic data. The role involves analyzing real-world crash scenarios, developing representative test cases, evaluating perception, planning, and control subsystems, and supporting safety case development aligned with frameworks such as UL 4600.

**Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
**Conduct research and validation activities focused on driver assistance technologies such as crash avoidance, collision mitigation, and driver support systems. This includes studying real-world crash data to identify scenarios where ADAS technologies can prevent or mitigate outcomes, developing test procedures, and evaluating system effectiveness, repeatability, and reproducibility. Additional responsibilities include assessing operational performance, consumer acceptance, potential unintended consequences, and alignment with regulatory and consumer safety expectations.

**Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging & Energy Systems
**Support the operation and expansion of ACM’s EV charging and energy systems testbed. Responsibilities include developing and executing EV–EVSE interoperability requirements, test cases, and validation activities covering AC and DC charging, high-power charging, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems. The role requires familiarity with relevant ISO, SAE, IEEE standards and includes collaboration with industry and research partners on cybersecurity, grid integration, and next-generation charging technologies.

**Connected Vehicle & V2X Technologies
**Develop, operate, and maintain connected vehicle systems supporting V2X and intelligent transportation applications. This includes C-V2X systems, roadside units, GNSS/RTK positioning, traffic signal controllers, RF and antenna systems, and backend traffic and mobility management platforms. Responsibilities span system integration, field testing, data acquisition, debugging, performance analysis, and reporting for vehicle-based and infrastructure-based connectivity deployments.

Additional Skills:

In addition to strong functional knowledge in at least two areas, the ideal candidate for this position is expected to have skills and interests in at least one of the following areas:

o   Cybersecurity risks and defensive methods. Cybersecurity evaluation approaches and Evaluation of emerging technologies in vehicle cyber cryptography

o   Expertise in emerging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms, methods, software, applications and systems as applied to ADAS, ADS, other intelligent technologies, and fundamental vehicle systems.

o   Functional safety assessment of ADAS and ADS components and subsystems, including perception, planning, and control.

Skills and Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Master’s degree or PhD preferred.

·        2–5 years of relevant engineering, testing, or technical project experience.

·        Demonstrated experience or strong interest in two or more of the following: ADAS, ADS, connected vehicles and EV charging.

·        Understanding and interest in one or more of the following: Cybersecurity, AI/ML and Functional Safety.

·        Experience supporting federally funded programs (DOE, DOT, NHTSA) is a plus.

·        Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

·        Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary, and multi-organization teams.
