About the role

The Legal Counsel is primarily responsible for leading and managing procurement-related legal matters within the Amcor Flexibles EMEA business group. In this capacity, the role serves as the key legal partner to the procurement function, supporting strategic projects, contract negotiations, regulatory advice and dispute resolution.

In addition, the Legal Counsel provides broader legal support, advice, and services to the business group. The role covers a broad range of legal matters, including the drafting and negotiation of contracts, litigation and claims handling, as well as commercial contracts, intellectual property, employment, regulatory, competition law, compliance, and other dispute-related matters.

As a key adviser to the business, the Legal Counsel helps protect the company’s interests and rights by providing strategic legal guidance and ensuring that business activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards within the relevant regions.

The Legal Counsel works closely with business stakeholders to support operations and manage legal risk, contributing to both day-to-day legal matters and more complex strategic initiatives. The role is expected to operate independently within assigned areas while collaborating with other members of the Legal function.

This position reports to the Business Group General Counsel and works in close coordination with the wider Legal team.

Key Job Accountabilities

  • Serve as the primary legal partner to the Procurement function across Amcor Flexibles EMEA, with principal responsibility for procurement-related legal matters.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and administer complex procurement agreements, including long-term supply agreements, framework agreements, raw material sourcing contracts, logistics arrangements, and strategic supplier partnerships, ensuring an appropriate balance between cost efficiency, risk allocation, and long-term collaboration objectives.
  • Lead the management of supplier claims and disputes. Develop and execute legal strategies for pre-litigation claims against suppliers, including delivery failures, quality breaches, or cost escalation disputes. Act as the lead internal liaison for external counsel in formal litigation or arbitration proceedings, ensuring effective case management and cost control. Lead complex mediation and settlement negotiations while preserving critical supplier relationships where appropriate.
  • Advise on regulatory issues such as: regulations relating to the direct raw materials, and indirect services and products, competition law, ethical supply chain issues, sustainability targets with tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers, greenhouse gas emissions and SBTs within the supply chain, carbon trading and control, as well other green and industry related regulations.
  • Act as the go-to legal advisor for supply chain and procurement projects, involving footprint or machine capacity assessment, and raw material sourcing.
  • Analyze recurring dispute patterns and supplier risk exposure, and proactively update contract templates and procurement processes to strengthen risk mitigation and commercial protection.
  • In addition to procurement responsibilities, provide broader legal support, including commercial contracts, regulatory, compliance, data privacy, and other dispute-related matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements in collaboration with the business, including sales contracts, confidentiality agreements, terms of engagement for advisers and consultants, and selected M&A-related agreements as required.
  • Provide guidance and support in the creation, implementation, management of compliance initiatives and develop and deliver targeted training.
  • Maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization and coordinate with other Business Group legal counsels to ensure consistency of approach and effective management of legal risk.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Formal Qualifications and Experience
  • You must be a fully qualified lawyer in an EU Member State with a strong knowledge of EU law as it applies to private commercial transactions, contracts, corporate procurement, competition law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience in legal practice, specifically focused on commercial and procurement law.
  • Deep expertise in drafting and negotiating high-value procurement agreements, with a specific focus on risk allocation, service levels, and long-term strategic sourcing.
  • Proven capability in claim handling and litigation management. You have a track record of resolving supplier disputes through both strategic negotiation and the management of formal legal proceedings/arbitration.
  • A proven track record that includes rigorous training within a reputable private practice, complemented by in-house experience where you have acted as a direct partner to business stakeholders.
  • Prior experience within a manufacturing or complex B2B environment is highly advantageous. You should demonstrate an understanding of the specific legal challenges related to global supply chains, raw material sourcing, and industrial services.
  • Experience operating within an international or multi-jurisdictional framework. You are comfortable navigating cross-border contracts, international trade regulations, and diverse legal systems.
  • It would be viewed favourably if you had a strong working knowledge of emerging regulations affecting procurement, including ESG compliance (CSDDD), CBAM, EUDR, data privacy, and modern trade sanctions.

Takes full ownership of assigned matters from initiation through resolution, driving tasks forward independently and ensuring timely delivery.
